Tex Miller is Dead by Kelly Elizabeth Huston

A NOVEL PAIRING because I love books and wine.

I was blessed to receive an advance copy of Tex Miller is Dead, and my cheeks are still sore from snickering my way through this clever, witty story. Kelly Elizabeth Huston’s tongue-in-cheek humor had me reading straight through the night! Humor aside, the storyline itself is unique and intriguing. Callie (so cleverly named if you know your Greek muses) is just trying to move on with her career and let sleeping dogs lie, but the universe has something else in store for her, and I was along for the ride! I am so looking forward to the next novel from Kelly Elizabeth Huston.

When choosing a wine to sip while reading Text Miller is Dead, I wanted to keep my wits about me so I wouldn’t miss any chucklesome, quick-witted, yet usually quite astute banter within the pages of this story. Lo and behold, I found WIT Cellars and their Quick WIT Society, as well as their Half WIT Club, their ‘Picky Paula’ Case Buyer Club and their wholesale club, called Wise WIT.  These people really are clever! Three friends gathered their talents and passions to create exceptional wines. “In doing so, we foster a fun, positive atmosphere that supports our principles and culminates in a healthy, happy lifestyle.” Sounds like something Callie could be interested in for one of her books!

WIT Cellars had quite the choice and my first thought was I should go with a white in case any quick humor would have me spewing in my reading chair! At the moment, while writing these kudos for Tex Miller is Dead, the only white wine the Washington State based winery was offering was a 2021 Riesling. Now, I’m not much of a Riesling drinker, but this one caught my attention. “The nose is filled with hints of lemon, grapefruit, and honeysuckle. With brilliant acidity, it makes for a nice and zesty wine. (One could say that about Ms. Huston’s writing: brilliant acidity, nice and zesty!) With highly unusual flavor and structure, this wine is a dead ringer for a dry German Riesling.  Food Pairing: Street Tacos!”

Can you believe it? I couldn’t have been slapped up the side the head any harder. I HAD to buy this wine for this book… FOOD PAIRING: STREET TACO’S…. NOW IF THAT AIN’T A SIGN…
