Wine and Cheese

HAPPY NATIONAL CHEESE LOVER’S DAY

Microblog

2020 called for ingenuity when it came to creating festivities with the folks you had been staring at everyday 24/7. So, with only The Rum Drinker and I at home, we needed something to enlighten our isolation. We began crafting an adult tea party of sorts- a new cheese, a new wine, each Friday. We set up individual charcuterie boards and discovered new combinations of meats, cheese, fruits, vegetables, and preserves atop a variety of bread and crackers. All this led to my researching and sampling wine and cheese combos. Here are my top picks (Mind you, I am no connoisseur of either!)

Champagne and Brie - The creaminess of the Brie calls for something crisp and bubbly making one of my favorite combinations.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Aged Cheddar- Both are full flavored and complement each other instead of competing.

Rosé and Havarti- A crisp yet delicate Rosé works well with the subtle buttery flavor of the Danish Havarti Cheese.

Chianti and Pecorino- These Tuscan BFFs can’t help but play well together. The nutty flavor of the hard cheese melds perfectly with Chianti’s leathery and herbal goodness.

Pino Grigio and Mozzarella –Both considered light and fresh and for an added bonus- Mozzarella is listed as the healthy cheese to eat (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/healthiest-cheese)

Rioja and Manchego- Each a Spanish classic in their own right, the smooth savory flavors of the Rioja blend perfectly with the almost meaty intensity of the crumbly Manchego.
