The Exit Strategy by Lainey Cameron

A NOVEL PAIRING because I love books and wine.

I love how Lainey Cameron threw me directly into the line of fire when I met the two main characters, Ryn and Carly, in her multi award-winning debut novel The Exit Strategy. These two successful, professional women leave their fighting corners to meet in the middle and support each other. My kind of girls!

Ryn is tough, yet professional, as well as compassionate and empathetic when it comes to mentoring her husband’s mistress, Carly! Yes, I said his mistress. (See where Ryn’s compassion and empathy come in?) Yet with several common causes on the horizon- a bit of revenge and a “me-too” endeavor- the two women work together to gain respect in the male-dominated Tech world. You gotta love women supporting women.

Ryn and Carly are not afraid to love their wine. Carly spills it and often supply’s it, and Ryn “fills her glass to the brim and downs half.” Both women adore wine and rom coms. As Ryn clearly loves the tech world, wine, and Nutella. So, I suggest a wine that blends well with hazelnut chocolate. According to Eataly.com “what grows together, goes together.” They suggest an Italian wine Brachetto d’Acqui “an aromatic, lightly sweet red wine of Piemonte. Luxurious, vivacious, and aromatic, with hints of raspberries, cherries, and rose petals.” This was a new one for me- and a bit too sweet. Makes sense since it’s a full-bodied sparkling red wine which compliments desserts, or if you are like me, can be dessert! I feel when Ryn is in her feels (and her Nutella), this is definitely the way she’d roll. Cheers!
